Port Wakefield is one of eight towns that make up the Wakefield Regional Council (WRC) and is situated in the Northern part of the Adelaide Plains. The Council is the result of a number of Local and District Councils amalgamating over the years.
In SA there are 68 Councils created under the Local Government Act 1999, five outback Aboriginal communities and the Outback Areas Community Development Trust. The Wakefield Regional Council is a member of the Local Government Association – South Australia.
The Local (State) Member representing the WRC area, which is in the Electorate of Narungga, is Mr Fraser Ellis MP
The Federal Member for this area is the Member for Grey, Mr Rowan Ramsey MP.
